Until recently, I never even knew chemical peels were for anything but wrinkles or possibly dark spots and essentially peeling off an undesired layer or few layers of the skin. But as it turns out, people quite frequently use chemical peels to get rid of acne. After all, with all that burning and peeling of a number of layers, you actually kill off a lot of bacteria, possibly acne causing bacteria.
They use ingredients such as benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid, and various other ingredients, and there are varying severities depending on how many levels you would like to peel off. The top 2 types actually bleach the skin and they produce 2nd degree burns. They don’t do them on people with darker skin, but I can think of a number of people who probably got a few of the more severe chemical peels in their time that by this rule weren’t supposed to. Even the lightest type however can be extremely painful and damaging.
It is used on sensitive skin types, but only because they won’t actually allow you to have the harsher types if you have this. On this note, though benzoyl peroxide is obviously used in a very high concentration here that could burn off a couple layers, when you use a regular product and you feel that tingling sensation, it is not because it’s killing off bacteria that you feel that. It is a mild pain response that is far multiplied when you get a chemical peel of that type.
